A demonstration was held on Friday 4th January 2013 in Bil’in in commemoration of Jawaher Abu Rahmah.  It was the second anniversary since she was killed during the village’s weekly protest against the Apartheid Wall.

Jawaher Abu Rahmah suffered asphyxiation after inhaling a large amount of tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers.

“Today is the second anniversary of our martyr Jawaher abu Rahma,” said Abdullah Abu Rahmah, a coordinator of the Popular Resistance Committee in Bil’in. “For this we made a festival to send the message that we remember her all of the time and that we want to continue the struggle. “

“Jawaher is the sister of Bassem who was also killed, in 2009,” Abu Rahmah continued. “Two people from one family have been killed only because they protest against the Wall using non-violent resistance.”

Despite the village managing to alter the route of the Wall in 2011, it still restricts access to around 25% of the land owned by the village.
