The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has led new strikes in the night of May 29 against 35 military targets linked to Hamas in the Gaza Strip, after mortars were shot from the enclave into Israel.

Sirens were heard in Israeli settlements along the Gaza borders as approximately 70 rockets were shot from Gaza injuring three Israeli soldiers according to the IDF.
One of the mortars landed in a kindergarten - still empty before school hours. The picture of the rocket has immediately gone viral on social media.
The IDF announced the 'Iron Dome’ protection system intercepted some of the projectiles.
It is the heaviest escalation between Israel and Gaza since 2014, which left 2,200 Palestinians killed and more than 11,000 injured.
The mortars shot from Gaza have been claimed by the armed branch of Hamas and Islamic Jihad (JIP), in a rare joint statement. They stated they were answering to a recent attack from the IDF.
On the same day, the United States called for an emergency meeting from the UN Security Council, denouncing the recent attack coming from Gaza.
Incidents are increasing the last days along the fence, after 110 palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers and more than 3,500 injured since the beginning of the Great March of Return.
In Sderot, Monday May 28, multiple impacts of automatic weapons have been seen in buildings and cars, reportedly shot from Gaza. Earlier during the day, two Palestinians were arrested by the IDF while attempting to cross the barrier.
The next action of the Great March of Return is due June 5, marking the anniversary of the 1967 6 Day War. In the meantime, a cease fire is on the table between Hamas and Israel. Egypt and Qatar have been mediating between the two sides.
