An Israeli man was victim of a stabbing attack in a gas station outside of the illegal settlement of Givat Zeev near Jerusalem last night.

The Israeli, a middle aged man, was critically injured after sustaining wounds in his upper body, according to a statement issued by police spokesperson Luba al-Samri.

The suspected attacker is an 18-year-old Palestinian from the occupied West Bank village of Bir Nibala. The suspect fled the scene, later being chased down and held by witnesses until Israeli police detained him.

Israeli police confirmed that the alleged attacker was taken to hospital for medical assistance, but the nature of his wounds remain unknown.

This is one of several attacks carried out over the last week, all of them close to Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Yesterday a Palestinian, 17, was detained by Israeli forces at the Qalandia military checkpoint south of Ramallah after an attempted stabbing attack, according to Ma’an News Agency.

A stabbing attack took place in the illegal settlement of Beit Horon near Jerusalem Monday leaving an Israeli woman dead and another injured. The attackers, a 17-year-old from Qalandiya refugee camp and another Palestinian from the village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, in his 20s, were both shot dead on site by an Israeli security guard.

These attacks are part of a wave of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories that beginning Oct. 2015. Most of the attacks have been directed at Israeli military forces or settlers, in the occupied West Bank. Over 160 Palestinian and 20 Israelis have died since violence escalated in October.
