A report released on Monday by the Shin Bet revealed there were 228 attacks or attempted attacks against Israelis since the beginning of October.

About 10 percent of the attacks were carried out by minors, and nearly half of the attackers were younger than 21 years old, the Israeli security agency reported.

In addition, the report stated that a third of the assailants were 21 to 25 years old, and only 10 percent were 30 and older. Women also took part in attempted attacks, amounting to 11 percent of all assailants.

The statistics further show that 74 percent of the attacks and attempted attacks took place in the West Bank, with an additional 10 percent taking place within the Green Line and 16 percent in Jerusalem.

About four-fifths of the attackers were Palestinians living in the West Bank. Nearly half of them came from the southern region of Hebron, and 25 percent from Ramallah.

Since October, 31 Israelis have died in attacks carried out by Palestinians. In the same period, over 170 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces.

The wave of unrest has been marked by small-scale attacks carried out by young Palestinian, predominantly against the Israeli military. The majority of suspected Palestinian assailants were shot dead on site.

The report was published by Shin Bet a month after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon condemned violent attacks carried out by Palestinians, stating, however, that it is “human nature to react to occupation.”

The UN Secretary General said that security measures alone, “cannot address the profound sense of alienation and despair driving some Palestinians – especially young people.”
