Dear Readers, Friends and Supporters,
Only days after Palestine Monitor members spent their Christmas day in Bethlehem, to warn the peaceful visitors and pilgrims of an impending Israel “Christmas” air strike on Gaza, the bloodbath happened. On the eve of Christmas, we believed Israel would take advantage of the holidays, when the attention of the world and the press are elsewhere, to prepare a military assault on the tiny Gaza Strip.
Two days later, without much preventive reaction from the International Community however it was predicable, the gruesome event took place.
Yesterday, the Israeli army carried out massive air strikes against the most densely populated area on the planet, already suffering from a heavy siege for more than two years. Israeli planes slammed missiles into over thirty targets in the 360 sq km Strip holding over 1.5 million people.
Today at least 278 have been reportedly killed, most of them civilians. More than 1.000 are injured. But we expect the number to continue to rise throughout the days, as more bodies are uncovered from the rubble – and more casualties succumb to their wounds, many of the dead are women and children.
The ‘Christmas attacks’ was the bloodiest bloodbath in Palestine since 1967.
We know how hard it is to ‘make things move’, changing the minds, the perspectives, the mainstream media discourse. We know it’s hard to reach sufficient and effective results. Especially on an international level, especially on this issue.
But it can move. And global actions can change history. Today, the Palestine Monitor team needs you to keep up the good fight.
We call you on organising any actions in your hometowns and cities, to raise awareness on the latest Israeli massacre in Gaza, to condemn the action and to make the Palestinian voice be heard. What you can do? Organise demonstrations, solidarity events, conferences, write chain emails, broadcast our (coming) petition, contact your governments / embassies / politicians.
For this, Palestine Monitor provides you with all of the information you will need to make your research or advocacy faster, easier, more accurate and more effective. Use our brand new fact sheets, version 2009!
Arm yourselves with the facts and keep fighting the good fight.
The PalMon team,
