Jericho, occupied Jordan Valley—The Israeli army prevented Dr. Mustafa Barghouti and a number of activists connected to the Popular Struggle Committees from returning to the protest village of Ein Hijleh on Wednesday 12 February.
Dr. Barghouthi, the Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI), Salah al-Khawaja, a leader of PNI, and a number of activists of the Popular Struggle Committees were prevented from reaching the village by a large force of Israeli army soldiers and Border Police. The activists returned to the site as part of a promise they made after being brutally evicted earlier this month.
Israeli forces detained a number of activists , including Munther Amira and Mohammed Khatib, in addition to a number of journalists, said Dr. Mustafa Barghouti while still on the scene.
Barghouti stressed that no matter the efforts by Israel’s army, the activists will not be prevented from returning to their village of Ein Hijleh, as well as Bab Al-Shams, Ahfad Younis and every other spot of “our occupied land…no one will stop our resistnace. Our popular struggle will win against the occupation and the settlements.”
