Five hundred people marched in Susiya, South Hebron on Friday to protest the planned demolition of 45 structures in the village. The peaceful march was violently stopped by Israeli soldiers, who used tear gas and sound bombs against the protesters.

The Israeli government justified the demolishing of 45 structures (which in fact represent almost the entire village) as being built illegally. What it didn’t say is that Palestinians living in the Area C–under full Israeli control–of the West Bank are forced to build illegally because it is almost impossible for them to obtain building permits from Israel.
