The Palestinians will take their case to the United Nations Security Council before the upcoming Israeli elections schedule for March 2015, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday.

“There is nothing wrong with the Palestinian draft resolution, which calls for ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and establishing an independent Palestinian state in the light of a specific timetable,” Abbas told the state-run Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission in Ramallah.

Abbas also reiterated that the Palestinians “cannot and will not recognize” Israel as a “Jewish state.”

“We will stand against this enterprise, not out of obstinacy, but because it contradicts our interests,” he said in an interview published with the Egyptian daily Akbar Al-Yawm.

The Palestinian leadership had previously established the end of November as the due date for its submission of a draft UN resolution setting November 2016 as the deadline for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from all Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.

If the resolution is shot down by a US veto in the Security Council, Abbas said he would take Israel to the International Criminal Court.

“If they want to take me down, I will take them along with me,” Abbas said, in reference to a lawsuit, accusing the Palestinian president of terrorism, recently filed against him by an Israeli NGO at the International Criminal Court.

Abbas said Israel was a difficult negotiating partner because its efforts in achieving a lasting peace were not genuine.

“Working with Israel is very difficult, if not impossible. We are conducting mutual relations with people who don’t believe in peace. You ask for peace, and they do not want it,” he said.

“If we cannot get what we want, there are other steps we can take. The first step is joining many international organizations, such as the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice.”
