The bodies of six Palestinians killed by Israeli forces over the past month were returned Friday evening: five to Hebron, and one to Jerusalem.
The bodies of Bayan Ayman al-Essili, 16, Tariq Ziyad al-Natsha, 16, Hussam Ismail al-Jabari, 17, and Bashar Nidal al-Jabari, 15 were all returned to Hebron. The four Palestinians have been killed over the past month following alleged knife attacks on Israeli soldiers.
Dania Irsheid al-Husseini, 17, was killed by Israeli forces, but eyewitnesses claim she did not attempt to carry out a knife attack. al-Husseini’s body was also returned to Hebron Friday.
A joint funeral for the five Palestinian youths is to be held in Hebron Saturday.
Haaretz reports that the bodies were returned on the condition that they would not be buried in mass funerals.
The body of Mutaz Atallah Qassem, 22, was also returned to al-Ezariya village and subsequently taken to Abu Dis Medical Center In Jerusalem.
The Israeli Security Cabinet decided earlier in October that Palestinians killed after carrying out attacks on Israelis would not be returned to their families in order to limit protests which often take place at such funerals.
There have been protests in Hebron over the past week demanding the immediate release of the bodies. Israel is still holding the bodies of the majority of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces over the past month.
The cabinet now sees holding the bodies as “a burden and not an asset.”
