A Palestinian woman was shot dead this afternoon after allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli soldier near Ibrahimi mosque in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, IDF spokesperson Peter Lerner has confirmed.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the woman’s death, and identified her as Kilzar Muhammad Ad al-Halim Azmi al-Eweiei, 18, from Hebron.
According to Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post, the woman tried to attack the IDF soldier with a knife before being shot and killed by Israeli soldiers..
The Israeli army confirmed that a soldier was lightly wounded.
According to witnesses, a Palestinian man was also injured as he tried to grab the woman after she attempted to stab the soldier. The man, who was stabbed in the waist, was evacuated to an Israeli hospital.
Witnesses said she may have mistaken the man for an Israeli. He was identified as Abed al-Rajabi, 52 years old, from Hebron.
A video of the site following the attack was posted in Ma’an News Agency’s Facebook page.
Over 170 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of a wave of unrest that began in Oct. 2015 in occupied East Jerusalem and spread to the West Bank.
Over 40 of these deaths took place in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.
